Stewardship

What is stewardship?
People often think stewardship is about money – well it is, but a lot more besides.
In the Bible a steward is the person in charge of the whole administration of a house or estate, he controlled the staff, issued the supplies, but as far as the master of the estate was concerned the steward was still a slave.
So Christian stewardship involves the whole of God’s creation.
There are ten main areas of stewardship.
Creation
We should care about the world we inhabit. To be concerned about our carbon footprint and to look after the planet God has entrusted to our care.
Gospel
Not just Matthew, Mark, Luke and John but the whole good news of what God has done for us and how we should share it with others
Money
We should consider carefully and prayerfully how much we should give to the church. Give to God what is right – he has given us much.
Peace
Not just the absence of war between countries. Peace within our communities, peace on our streets. Greater understanding between different faiths,
Property
Are our church buildings suitable for our current needs. Are we maintaining our buildings properly.

Justice
Fair trade. Persecuted Christians. Make Poverty History. These are campaigns we can be involved with to help to make a fairer society.
Worship
We should share in worshipping God.
There are many different styles and forms of worship.
Time
You can’t stop it, store it, buy it, borrow it, see it or rent it. In today’s world we have timetables, timesheets, time is money. Are we using our time wisely.
People
We all have different talents and gifts. People should be encouraged to use their gifts. Give people the opportunity to develop their gifts.
